Got Audiobooks? We do!

Along with our in house collection of books on CD and books on tape we have another collection housed online! As part of the Green Mountain Library Consortium your digital library is available to you any time day or night. This service is offered through Overdrive digital media service and Listen Up! Vermont. To access downloadable audio books, click the green "audiobook download" tab on our web page or scroll down this blog page and on the right side of the page you'll see a link to "download audio books".

Audio books can be downloaded to your computer then transferred to an MP3 player. Some titles may also be burned to CDs. Soon, (sometime this fall) some titles will be available for transfer to an IPod. Need assistance getting started? Call or drop by the library. We have a computer station available to help get you started and assistance from the library staff is available.

There is something for everyone at the Listen Up! Vermont site. I decided to try it for myself and downloaded a beginner's Spanish audiobook (I figured I could learn something during my drive to and from the library each day.) I downloaded the Overdrive software (took about 2 minutes) then downloaded the Beginner's Spanish two parts at a time. I found that this is quicker than trying to download all parts of the book at the same time. Next I inserted a CD into my CD drive and clicked on "Burn". Each CD holds one part of the audio book. Nine CDs later, and I have the whole book on beginner Spanish.

Young adult books, children's books, language audios, adult fiction (classics, as well as new fiction) and non-fiction. Just click on the link and explore the "hidden" collection at your library!
